03 The Sector

A sector as determined by Traveller is a 2-D slice of space consisting of 8 hexes wide and 10 hexes tall. With nothing at all done, this is what we have.

Isn't it beautiful? Like a canvas before the paints are applied. I decided to make the planets slightly scarce so instead of a planet existing on a 4-5-6, I used 5-6 instead. The spread I got was quite nice. A large collection of planets on the left of the map with a scattering to the right.

When I rolled up the starport quality (shown below) I got another little shock, so many type-A's! This caused me to pause and think. Do I want to change them at all? How do I work with this? I may downgrade a couple of the ports, however an idea struck me to flavour the area.

There's two or three major high tech polities that are at war, leading to the low tech 'ruined' starports on the border between them. Perhaps a neutral zone. Instantly we have something to draw players in. A bit of conflict, mercenary parties, black market trading and lots of political potential.

And that's exactly what we need. Something to draw players in, if it's not interesting then why am I running a game in this area and why are the players here? An important question that cant be forgotten.

Now I'll start to process the UWPs and see what we end up with.
